A Touching Gesture from the Prime Minister of Portugal in the World Cup to Honor Diogo Jota
The Portuguese national team's delegation at the 2026 World Cup witnessed a touching gesture from Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, in commemoration of the late player Diogo Jota.
Vitinha, the national team player, explained that this initiative came during a meeting with the Prime Minister, where special commemorative bracelets bearing the name of Diogo Jota, along with the names of all the players on the national team roster, were presented in honor of their late teammate.
According to Vitinha, these bracelets were designed to be worn on the field in accordance with approved specifications, allowing players the freedom to choose whether to wear them during training or matches.
The Paris Saint-Germain player added that the national team received the initiative with great appreciation, and the players decided to adopt it during the tournament in honor of Diogo Jota, who was supposed to be part of the team in the World Cup before he tragically died in a car accident about a year ago, after playing 49 international matches with the Portugal national team.
