The United States Sweeps Paraguay in World Cup Opener

The United States team opened its journey in the 2026 World Cup with a significant 4-1 victory over Paraguay, in the match held at SoFi Stadium as part of the first round of the group stage.

The first goal for the American team came early in the eighth minute when Paraguay's player Damian Bobadilla mistakenly scored an own goal.

Folarin Balogun added the second goal in the 31st minute after a pass from Christian Pulisic, before the same player returned to score the third goal in the 45+5th minute of the first half with an assist from Malik Tillman.

In the second half, Julio Mauricio Magalhaes reduced the deficit for Paraguay in the 73rd minute, but Giovanni Reyna dashed the opponent's hopes by scoring the fourth goal for the United States in the 90+8th minute after a pass from Alex Freeman.

With this victory, the American team earned its first three points in the tournament, while Paraguay began its journey with a loss.
