Neymar Threatened with Absence from World Cup Group Stage

Saturday 13-06-2026
Concerns have grown within the Brazilian national team camp regarding the readiness of star player Neymar, as he continues to miss group training due to a calf muscle injury sustained before the start of the 2026 World Cup. Recent reports indicate that the player is at risk of missing more than one match in the group stage, with the date of his return to the field still unclear.

The Brazilian Football Confederation had previously announced that tests revealed a grade two injury in the calf muscle, with a recovery period ranging from two to three weeks, which led to his exclusion from Brazil's opening match against Morocco.

Although the latest MRI scan showed positive improvement in the recovery process, Neymar has not yet been given the green light to return to full training with the group, raising doubts about his ability to participate in the remaining matches of the first round.

On the other hand, there remains a sense of cautious optimism within the coaching staff led by Carlo Ancelotti, as some medical assessments suggest that Neymar might be able to join the second or third match of the group stage if his progress in the treatment program continues at the expected rate.

As of now, there is no official decision confirming Neymar's absence from the entire group stage, but it is certain that his participation in the initial matches is highly doubtful and will depend on his response to treatment in the coming days.
