Manchester United Considers Selling Defender

Monday 08-06-2026
Manchester United is considering allowing the departure of English defender Harry Maguire during the summer transfer window, despite recently renewing his contract with the team.

According to "Football Insider," Manchester United is open to receiving offers for the 33-year-old defender, even though his contract runs until June 2027 with an option for an additional year.

This approach is part of the club's plan to restructure the team and reduce the average age in certain positions, as well as to provide the coaching staff with greater flexibility in the transfer market under the leadership of Michael Carrick.

Nevertheless, Maguire is appreciated within the club after successfully regaining his position in recent times, as he has become an important figure due to his experience, leadership abilities, and strength in aerial duels.

Manchester United announced last April the extension of the defender's contract until 2027, after he was close to leaving as a free agent at the end of the season.

However, the current trend within the club suggests a search for defenders who are faster and more capable of building play from the back, which may not fully align with Maguire's characteristics.

The player was also absent from England's squad for the 2026 World Cup, despite delivering good performances throughout the season.

Although the idea of his departure seems like a difficult decision, Manchester United's management may agree to any suitable offer as part of their plan to rebuild the team with more youth and balance.
