Sunday 07-06-2026
The 'Lions of Mesopotamia' are gearing up for a strong friendly match against the Venezuelan team, as part of the final preparations before the start of the 2026 World Cup competitions.

The match will be held at 'Soldier Field' stadium in Chicago, USA, at four in the morning Baghdad time, within the closed training camp supervised by coach Graham Arnold.

The Iraqi team enters the match with an almost complete lineup, following the return of injured players and the joining of professionals, aiming to solidify the tactical ideas implemented by the technical staff during daily training sessions. Arnold is expected to give opportunities to several young players alongside the core players, to assess everyone's readiness before the official matches.

On the other hand, Venezuela has fast players capable of offensive transitions, which will provide Iraq's defense with a real test to measure cohesion and focus, especially in crosses and counterattacks.

Mustafa Nadhim, the team defender, previously stated that the current camp represents a golden opportunity for cohesion between local and professional players, noting that the team has reached an advanced stage of physical and mental readiness. He also emphasized the importance of fan support, considering that the 'Lions of Mesopotamia' are capable of delivering an honorable performance befitting the name of Iraq.
