Hossam Abdel-Meguid: The World Cup Was a Dream for Me

Hossam Abdel-Meguid, the star of Zamalek and the Egyptian national team, confirmed that participating in the World Cup was a dream for him.

Abdel Majid told Reuters in an interview: "The World Cup was a dream for me because my older brother used to talk to me about this tournament when I was a child. I remember telling him that I would play in the World Cup, but I didn't expect to fulfill my childhood dream so quickly, just three years after playing with the first team."

He affirmed: "This is what the fans hope for from us and it is their right. It is also our right to see Egypt in the knockout stages. Every fan has the right to dream of seeing their country win this tournament, but each team has its own circumstances. I believe we can surpass the group stage and go far in the World Cup."

He continued: "We have been playing together for two years, and the harmony between us has increased. We don't focus on who we will face but rather on the strengths and weaknesses of all the teams in the group. We want to win every match, and if we don't win, we aim not to lose. We try to give our best as much as possible."

He added: "The entire team wants to go far in the World Cup, not just play for honorable representation. We have great players; Omar Marmoush plays for Manchester City, (Mohamed) Salah is Liverpool's top scorer, and Hamza Abdel Karim might play with Barcelona's first team. These talents enable us to compete. Hossam Hassan always motivates us and tells us that we can, which gives us a boost that we can achieve something for Egypt."

The Egyptian national team is in Group G of the World Cup, alongside the teams of Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand.
