Farag Amer, the former president of Smouha Club, sparked controversy regarding the future of Imam Ashour, a player for Al Ahly Club.
Farag Amer stated on his Facebook page: "Al Ahly club management has opened the door for the departure of player Emam Ashour during the summer transfer window, which will start in a few weeks, if serious and official offers come from Arab, European, or American clubs at a value acceptable to Al Ahly."
Imam Ashour had frequently requested to have his contract amended to be on par financially with the top-tier stars of the team, specifically Ahmed Sayed Zizo and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet.
Al Ahly finished the Egyptian Premier League in third place with 53 points, compared to 54 points for Pyramids in second place, and 56 points for Zamalek, the leader.
