England Enlists Fourth Division Team in World Cup Preparations

Thursday 04-06-2026
England's national team coach, Thomas Tuchel, continued implementing his plans in preparation for the 2026 World Cup by organizing an additional training session against Miami United, a team competing in the fourth division, which is considered among the amateur and semi-professional levels in the United States.

According to The Telegraph, the encounter will not be a full 90-minute match, but rather similar to what is known in the United States as a "scrimmage" (an informal training match), where England players will have the opportunity to face opponents from outside the group, with a focus on practicing set pieces and various tactical aspects between the two friendly matches against New Zealand and Costa Rica.

The English defender Dan Burn highlighted the importance of this step by saying: "Training can sometimes be difficult because everyone knows what will happen. When we practice play patterns or building an attack from the back, everyone is aware of the details. The more time we spend together and repeat what the coach and the technical staff are trying to convey to us, the stronger we become."

This session is part of the adaptation program set by Tuchel in Florida before facing Croatia on June 17 in the opening match of the English national team in the World Cup.

Byrne also emphasized that the level of confidence within the camp is high due to recent results, noting the experience of players like Harry Kane, John Stones, and Jordan Henderson, in addition to the series of consecutive victories in the qualifiers without conceding a goal, which gives the team a significant morale boost ahead of the tournament.
