Officially: Fabian Schär Extends His Contract with Newcastle Until Summer 2027

Tuesday 02-06-2026
Newcastle United officially announced that they have reached an agreement with Swiss defender Fabian Schär to extend his contract for an additional season, keeping him with the "Magpies" until June 2027.

This extension comes after weeks of negotiations between the two parties, as Newcastle's management was keen to retain one of the most experienced players in the locker room, despite the player reaching his 34th year. Coach Eddie Howe also expressed his clear desire for the Swiss defender to remain part of the team's project for the upcoming seasons.

Schar is considered one of Newcastle's standout players in recent years, having joined the club from Deportivo La Coruña in 2018. He has participated in over 250 matches wearing the team's jersey and was a key figure in the club's return to European competition and winning the English League Cup in 2025.

The extension of Schar's contract sends a clear message from Newcastle's management about the importance of retaining experienced players within the team, especially with the club participating in several tournaments next season and its pursuit to continue competing for top positions both domestically and in Europe.

With this agreement, Fabian Schär continues his journey with Newcastle for an additional year, bringing him closer to completing a full decade within the English club, which has become one of its most prominent figures in recent years.
