Saudi National Team Announces Final Squad for the 2026 World Cup
The Greek Giorgos Donis, the head coach of the Saudi national team, revealed the final squad for "Al-Akhdar" that will compete in the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The list saw the exclusion of five players from the initial group announced earlier by the technical staff. These players are Abdul Quddus Atiyah, Abdul Rahman Al-Sanabi, Zakaria Hawsawi, Saleh Abu Al-Shamat, and Abdullah Al-Salem, as part of the final touches before settling on the names that will represent the national team in the global event.
According to the Saudi newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat," the trio Abdullah Al-Salem, Abdulrahman Al-Sanbi, and Abdul Quddus Atiyah will continue to be present in the Saudi national team's camp at the direct request of coach Donis, in anticipation of any developments that may arise before the start of the tournament.
This decision aligns with the World Cup regulations, which allow teams to replace any player listed in the final squad up to 24 hours before the first match, in case of an injury that prevents them from continuing their participation in the tournament.
The final list of the Saudi national team included the following names:
Goalkeepers: Mohammed Al-Owais, Nawaf Al-Aqidi, Ahmed Al-Kassar.
Defense line: Abdulilah Al-Amri, Hassan Al-Tambakti, Jihad Zikri, Ali Lajami, Hassan Kadesh, Saud Abdulhamid, Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat, Ali Majrashi, Muteb Al-Harbi, Nawaf Boushal.
Midfield: Mohammed Kanoo, Abdullah Al-Khaibari, Ziad Al-Juhani, Nasser Al-Dosari, Musab Al-Juwair, Alaa Al-Hajji, Salem Al-Dosari, Khaled Al-Ghannam, Ayman Yahya, Sultan Mandash, Firas Al-Buraikan.
Forward line: Saleh Al-Shehri, Abdullah Al-Hamdan.
The Saudi national team is preparing to face a tough challenge in Group H, which includes alongside it the teams of Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde, in one of the groups expected to witness strong competition for the two qualification spots to the next round.
The Saudi national team hopes to deliver a remarkable performance in the 2026 edition, building on the positive memories from the previous tournament when they achieved a historic victory over Argentina, who went on to win the World Cup.
