Darwin Núñez on Barcelona's Radar

The Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez is nearing a return to Europe, as his future with Saudi club Al Hilal is currently in doubt.

The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Nunez's name was mentioned during ongoing communications between Barcelona and Al-Hilal regarding the future of Portuguese player Joao Cancelo, given the player's complicated situation within the Saudi club and the possibility of terminating his contract by mutual consent.

Núñez lost his place in Al-Hilal's roster in the Saudi League during the second half of the season, following changes imposed by the foreign player registration regulations after Karim Benzema joined the team. However, the termination of his contract has not been officially announced yet.

The Uruguayan forward had transferred to Al-Hilal from Liverpool for 53 million euros and delivered mixed performances during his first season, scoring and assisting goals in the Saudi League and the AFC Champions League, but he failed to secure a permanent spot in the lineup.

Julian Alvarez is Barcelona's primary offensive target, but the Catalan club continues to explore other options to strengthen their attack, while closely monitoring the situation of Nunez, who wishes to return to European football after just one season in Saudi Arabia.
