Liverpool Football Club has officially announced the departure of its coach Arne Slot from his position as the manager of the first team, effective immediately, as the club begins the process of hiring a new coach to succeed him, according to an official statement released by the club on its official website.

Liverpool explained in its statement that Slot, who took charge of the team in June 2024, led the club to win its 20th English Premier League title in its history during his first season, and also won the Best Manager award from the English Premier League Managers' Association. He succeeded in reaching the Carabao Cup final and the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

He also led the team to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the second consecutive season in the 2025/2026 season, before reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The club confirmed in its statement: "It goes without saying that this was a difficult decision for us as the club's management. What Arne Slot has contributed to Liverpool during his time with us was significant and meaningful, and most importantly for the fans and all of us, it was successful."

He added: "Therefore, our appreciation for all he has achieved cannot be greater, especially as it was supported by hard work, discipline, and a high level of expertise, which reinforced our vision of him as one of the leaders in his field."

He pointed out: "From the first moment we met Arne, it was clear that he is a person who not only takes responsibility but fully embraces it, as was evident when he agreed to take on the role of manager, when he led us to the Premier League title, and also during the recently concluded season despite the great challenges he faced."

He continued: "At the same time, we collectively came to the conclusion that change is necessary for the continued development of the club, and it must be emphasized again that this decision was not made easily at all, quite the opposite."

He added: "We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Arne, who will always hold a special place in the history of this club as the coach who led Liverpool to its 20th league title."

He confirmed: "This achievement, which became more distinguished because it was achieved in his first season, was the result of outstanding day-to-day coaching and leadership."

He added: "He also helped the club overcome one of the toughest periods in its history after the loss of Diogo, where his humanity and compassion reflected much about his character."

He continued: "Therefore, we can only wish Arne success in the next phase of his coaching career, with our conviction that he will continue to succeed, and we do so knowing that his legacy at Liverpool will remain present and deepen with the passing of years and decades."

He continued: "However, the conclusion we reached is based on the conviction that the team's path needs a change in direction, and this does not detract from the work Arne has done here, nor from our respect for him, nor is it a reflection of his talent, but rather reflects the need for a different approach."

The club concluded its statement: "Arne Slot departs as we thank him, with the Premier League title in his record, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcome at Anfield."
