Barcelona Presents Initial Offer to Sign Alvarez

Barcelona club has initiated its official steps to sign Argentine Julian Alvarez, a player from Atletico Madrid, after making moves during an important meeting between the sporting director Deco and intermediaries chosen by the club to explore the possibility of completing the deal, according to the Spanish newspaper 'Sport'.

The meeting witnessed a significant development, with Fernando Hidalgo, Julian Alvarez's agent, joining the discussions directly after they began, before leaving after more than four hours, just before Barcelona president Joan Laporta arrived at the meeting venue in the hotel.

According to the Spanish newspaper, Barcelona intends to present the first official offer to Atletico Madrid in the near future, valued at around 90 million euros plus variables and additional bonuses.

The newspaper confirmed that Barcelona's management is aware that the deal will not be easy or quick, given Atletico Madrid's insistence on receiving a high financial return to part with the player, alongside Paris Saint-Germain's strong entry into the negotiations, with Arsenal also continuing to monitor the Argentine striker's situation.

Despite this, Barcelona sees significant progress in the negotiation process in recent weeks, which was discussed during the last meeting, where the sporting management asked the player to take a clear step to show his genuine desire to wear the Catalan club's jersey, aiming to clarify his position to Atletico Madrid.

'Sport' indicated that Julian Alvarez has indeed shown his preference for the idea of moving to Barcelona indirectly, which the club considered a positive factor that contributed to opening the door for direct negotiations with his representatives.

Conversely, the economic factor remains the biggest obstacle to completing the deal, along with Atletico Madrid's refusal to easily give up one of its top stars, although the player's desire remains an influential element in the negotiation process.

Barcelona believes that Julian Alvarez's desire to move could play a decisive role in the coming months, especially with coach Hans Flick's continued communication with the player, in addition to sporting director Deco's monitoring of his situation since the beginning of 2026.

The Catalan club considers Alvarez a strategic target capable of leading the team's project in the coming years, which drives them to continue trying until the end to finalize the deal, affirming that any potential failure will not be due to a lack of effort or determination.
