Laporta Reveals Developments in Gordon Deal
The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, clarified the latest developments regarding the deal to sign English forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, confirming that negotiations are still in their final stages and have not been officially concluded yet, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo."
Laporta said in his statements following a dinner with Deco, the club's sporting director, and several agents: "The deal for Gordon is being worked on, but it hasn't been finalized yet. I have been informed of everything."
The newspaper added that Laporta attended a meeting at the Torre Melina Hotel alongside Deco, Alejandro Echevarria, as well as Juanma Lopez and Andy Bara, who are the agents of Juan Garcia and Dani Olmo, during which details of the ongoing negotiations regarding the deal were presented.
The same source indicated that Barcelona's management now considers the signing of Gordon to be close to completion with a five-year contract. However, the official announcement is pending only the player's medical examination and the signing of the final contracts.
During the meeting, Laporta was briefed on the results of the negotiations conducted by Deco in London on Monday and Tuesday with Newcastle United's management, which gave the green light to complete the deal for approximately 70 million euros plus 10 million euros in variables.
In the same context, the newspaper clarified that Barcelona plans to officially announce the deal before Gordon joins the English national team's camp next Monday under the leadership of coach Thomas Tuchel, in preparation for the World Cup.
