Di Maria Attacks Van Gaal Over Manchester United Experience

Wednesday 27-05-2026
The Argentine Ángel Di María opened up about his difficult experience with Manchester United, directing direct criticism at the Dutch coach Louis van Gaal, who was in charge of the team during the player's sole season at "Old Trafford."

Di Maria said in statements to BBC: "Everything was going great until my problems with Van Gaal began, and from that moment, everything started to fall apart."

He added, "He always focused on the negative aspects of my performance and never talked about the positive ones."

The Argentine star joined United in 2014 from Real Madrid for 75 million euros, but he quickly lost his starting position before leaving after just one season.

Van Gaal responded sharply to his former player's statements, saying: "I didn't want to sign Di Maria from the start; that was the club's decision."

The Dutch coach added that he could not find any position where the player could provide the required contribution, considering the deal a "mistake."

Di Maria also spoke about the incident he experienced during his stay in Manchester, when his house was burgled while he was with his family, saying: "When all these things happen, when you're not playing, when things aren't going well, and when you're facing problems within the club, it affects you a lot."

He concluded by saying, "All of that made me hate that club."
