Napoli Moves to Sign Allegri in Anticipation of Conte's Departure

Sunday 24-05-2026
Napoli has begun practical steps to sign coach Massimiliano Allegri, in anticipation of the possible departure of the current manager, Antonio Conte, in the near future.

The "Calcio Mercato" website reported that Napoli's sporting director Giovanni Manna held a dinner meeting with Allegri in Milan, as a direct move by the club to explore the possibility of him taking over the team's coaching role.

The report clarified that the strong relationship between Mana and Allegri, which began during their time working together at Juventus, played an important role in facilitating this meeting.

Allegri has been admired by Napoli's president Aurelio De Laurentiis for years, as the Italian coach came close to managing the team on several occasions, the most recent being last summer before Conte continued and AC Milan moved to sign him.

This move comes at a time when AC Milan is experiencing administrative uncertainty, following reports of the expected departure of CEO Giorgio Furlani, which has caused instability within the club.

Nevertheless, the report indicated that Allegri's position within Milan has become stronger in recent days, especially since his contract extends until 2027, with a clause allowing for automatic extension until 2028 if the team qualifies for the Champions League.

The report confirmed that Napoli would be ready to move quickly if Allegri decides to leave Milan, as the club is keen to resolve the coaching situation early.

At the same time, coaching the Italian national football team remains an important option for Allegri, especially with ongoing discussions about the future of the national team's coaching staff and the emergence of Roberto Mancini's name among the proposed candidates.
