Simeone Enters History with 800 Matches at Atlético Madrid

Argentinian coach Diego Simeone is preparing to play his 800th match in his career with Atlético Madrid, marking a historic achievement that reflects his long-standing continuity with the team.

The Spanish newspaper "Marca" reported that Simeone's journey with Atletico Madrid began on January 7, 2012, at La Rosaleda Stadium, and since then he has led the team to become one of the most prominent clubs in Europe, even though the current season may end without winning any titles.

During this journey, Simeone achieved 470 victories with the team, a figure that reflects the extent of success the Argentine coach has achieved over his many years with the club.

The Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti is the manager Diego Simeone has faced the most in his career, with 28 direct encounters. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is the team he has faced most frequently, with 50 matches, during which he achieved 14 victories, 17 draws, and 18 losses.

Team captain Koke tops the list of players with the most appearances under Simeone's leadership, having played 702 out of the 799 matches coached by Simeone before reaching the 800 mark. He is the only player who has been with the team since the beginning of Simeone's era.

Following him on the list is goalkeeper Jan Oblak, then forward Antoine Griezmann, who is considered one of the most relied upon players during the Argentine coach's tenure.

The Marca report indicated that Simeone's record is difficult to break in the future, as he historically surpassed in terms of the number of matches as a coach at the club, Luis Aragonés, who led 612 matches, and then Ricardo Zamora with 207 matches.

With his contract continuing into the next season, Simeone continues to enhance his historic records with Atlético Madrid, with whom he has won 8 titles, including the Spanish League in 2014 and 2021.
