Real Madrid Enters the Race to Sign Bastoni

Saturday 23-05-2026
Real Madrid has entered the competition to sign the Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni, a player for Inter Milan, during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Italian newspaper 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', citing 'Calcio Mercato', reported that Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, who is close to taking over as coach of the Royal Club, is among the biggest admirers of Bastoni's abilities, at a time when Real Madrid is preparing to rebuild its defensive line after the departure of several players at the end of the season.

The report indicated that Real Madrid will undergo significant defensive changes this summer, with the departure of David Alaba and Dani Carvajal, making the signing of a defender with international experience a priority within the club.

The newspaper added that Inter Milan values Bastoni at no less than 70 million euros, a figure that does not represent a major obstacle for Real Madrid if they decide to officially move to finalize the deal.

FC Barcelona was considered the frontrunner to sign the Italian defender in the past period, especially after previous contacts with the player's entourage and discussions of some personal details.

However, the report clarified that coach Hans Flick is no longer fully convinced by Bastoni's technical characteristics, preferring to sign a defender with different specifications, prompting Barcelona to look for other options.

On the other hand, Bastoni still wishes to continue with Inter Milan, having become one of the key elements in the team under the leadership of Christian Chivu.

With Real Madrid's continued interest and the club's readiness to reshape its defense, the Bastoni deal could become one of the most prominent topics in the upcoming summer transfer market.
