Barcelona Delays Decision on Ferran Torres' Contract Renewal

Barcelona is set to postpone opening the file on renewing its forward Ferran Torres' contract, even though the player's current contract ends in the summer of 2027. There is a belief within the club that there is no need to rush the decision during the current period.

The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' explained that Barcelona has not made any official contacts with Ferran Torres in recent months regarding extending his contract. The management does not see the necessity to move quickly, especially since the player still has more than a year left on his contract with the team.

Barcelona is preparing to conclude its season with a match against Valencia, at a time when Ferran Torres has recovered from minor muscle pains, giving coach Hans Flick the opportunity to include him in the squad for the match scheduled at the Mestalla Stadium.

The newspaper added that the 26-year-old Spanish forward is also a candidate to be with the Spanish national team in the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where coach Luis de la Fuente is expected to announce his official list in the coming days.

Barcelona's management believes that Ferran Torres has delivered good performances with the team, and his current salary does not pose a crisis within the club, which explains the lack of urgency in starting renewal negotiations.

At the same time, the club prefers to evaluate the future of the forward line, especially after the departure of Robert Lewandowski and potential deals that Barcelona might make, before making a final decision on the player's longer-term continuation.

The management cited the case of Frenkie de Jong, who entered his final year of contract before later reaching an agreement to renew his contract with the club, which makes Barcelona confident about the possibility of resolving Ferran Torres' file at a later time.

The club believes that Lewandowski's departure could give Ferran Torres a bigger role within the team during the next season, especially after his success in delivering effective performances as a forward capable of playing in more than one position in the front line.

Ferran Torres joined Barcelona in January 2022 from Manchester City for 55 million euros, and since then, he has participated in 206 matches, scoring 65 goals and providing 21 assists.
