Thursday 21-05-2026
A report issued by the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Catalonia revealed that José María Enríquez Negreira, the former vice president of the Referees Committee in Spain, is suffering from a significant deterioration in his mental condition, rendering him unable to comprehend the judicial proceedings related to the case involving FC Barcelona, as reported by El Mundo newspaper.

The new medical examination revealed that Negrera suffers from a cognitive neurological disorder with the possibility of Alzheimer's disease, confirming that his health condition has worsened compared to the previous report conducted for him in January 2024.

According to the report, Negreira no longer possesses the cognitive abilities necessary to follow the proceedings of the trial or to defend himself naturally before the Spanish judiciary.

The judge is expected to decide in the coming period whether Negreira will remain a party in the case, while investigations continue with Barcelona and several former club officials regarding the controversial issue.
