Crisis with Torop Escalates Inside Al-Ahly

The journalist Ahmed Shobeir revealed exciting developments in the case of the Danish coach Jes Thorup, the head coach of Al Ahly, confirming that negotiations between the two parties to terminate the contract at the end of the season have reached a deadlock in recent hours.

Shobeir explained in a radio statement that Torop's agent recently came to Cairo to reach an amicable agreement with Al Ahly's management to avoid legal disputes or official complaints.

He pointed out that the initial agreement stipulated that the Danish coach would receive a six-month salary in exchange for terminating the contract by mutual consent, amid increasing talks about his departure following the disappointing season that ended with the team being out of the CAF Champions League for the first time since 2003.

Shobeir added that Al-Ahly officials initially confirmed the existence of mutual respect with Torop, along with positive progress in negotiations, before things suddenly changed.

He continued: "I was surprised by the agent's reaction during a phone call, after he confirmed to me that Al-Ahly officials refused to hold a meeting with him despite his presence in Cairo."

The media personality continued his talk, explaining that he conveyed the message to a member of Al-Ahly's board of directors, who expressed surprise at the matter, while also confirming that the issue is still under discussion between the club's management and the coach's lawyer, and that matters were close to being resolved.

However, Shobeir revealed that Torop's agent contacted him again in a state of great anger after he had to extend his stay in Cairo for two additional days in the hope of holding a meeting with Al-Ahly officials. The club then informed him that it was not possible to hold the session, which led to the breakdown of negotiations before the recent match against Al-Masry.

Shobeir concluded his statements by pointing out that Torop himself supported his agent's narrative, after stating following the match against Al-Masry that his contract with Al-Ahly still extends for two more years, affirming his continuation with the team.

Shobeir confirmed that each party is currently holding onto their legal position, whether it be Al Ahly or the coach's agent, noting that the matter has indeed entered a phase of conflict, awaiting what the coming days will reveal.
