McFarlane: We Deserved to Lead Against Tottenham, and the Victory Will Give Us Confidence

Callum McFarlane, the interim manager of Chelsea, praised his players' reaction after the 2-1 victory over Tottenham in the match that brought the two teams together in the 37th round of the English Premier League.

McFarlane said: "It was clear from the first minute that we didn't have, at some points, the energy and strength we needed; we had it intermittently."

He added: "It was natural for things to be difficult after the cup final due to the physical and mental load that the match imposed on us. We knew that would be the case."

He continued: "I think we had some very good periods in the first half, and I believe we deserved to lead by two goals when we scored them."

He continued his statements by saying: "When Tottenham showed more energy, it was clear they had more time to prepare for the match and more rest; we just had to fight to achieve the result."

The Chelsea manager also spoke about the importance of the win before the last round of the season, with the competition for a spot in the Europa League still ongoing, saying: "We know everyone talked about our fight and determination, and sometimes our resolve and some of our levels were questioned, and that might be true."

McFarlane concluded his statements by saying: "But I don't think we need extra motivation; this group wants to win every match, and this victory will give us confidence, especially since we haven't achieved a win in the Premier League for a while."
