Guardiola's Anger After Leaks About His Departure from Manchester City

Tuesday 19-05-2026
Pep Guardiola informed Manchester City players that he will leave the club at the end of the current season, during a surprise meeting he held with the team, according to what was revealed by the British newspaper 'The Sun'.

The newspaper reported that the 55-year-old Spanish coach held a late-night group call with the players, during which he confirmed his decision to leave after the last match of the season, causing shock within the team.

The same source added that Guardiola expressed his anger over the leak of his departure news before the crucial match against Bournemouth, considering the timing of the news release inappropriate before an important game.

The newspaper pointed out that some players had previously received assurances that the coach would continue with the team, making the sudden announcement of his departure have a significant impact in the locker room.

The report explained that Guardiola, who has 12 months remaining on his contract, had remained silent in recent days about his future, repeatedly confirming that he is still tied to his contract with Manchester City.

The Spanish coach is expected to conclude his career with Manchester City after 593 matches, during which he won 17 major titles, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2023.

This development comes at a time when Sunday's match is the last for a number of veteran players in the team, before it becomes clear that it may also be Guardiola's last appearance at the helm of the club's technical leadership.
