Saturday 16-05-2026
Egypt has been officially entrusted with organizing the upcoming North Africa Under-20 Championship, a move that reflects the growing confidence in Egypt's organizational capabilities in regional football.

The North African Football Union announced the hosting rights for Egypt during a meeting attended by Hani Abu Rida, the President of the Egyptian Football Association and the President of the North African Union, along with several presidents and representatives of the member national associations.

This decision comes as part of reorganizing the federation's tournaments in the upcoming phase, especially given the pivotal role played by the North Africa Under-20 Championship, as it qualifies for the African Youth Championship, which in turn leads to the Under-20 World Cup.

The meeting witnessed discussions on a number of organizational and administrative files related to the North African Union's tournaments and activities, in addition to exploring ways to enhance cooperation among member federations in the upcoming period.

The meeting resulted in the adoption of a set of decisions regarding the hosting of tournaments. It was decided to hold the North Africa Under-20 Championship in Egypt, while Tunisia will host the Under-17 Championship qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The organization of the futsal championship has been assigned to Libya, while Algeria will host the school championship, and the women's club champions' tournament will be held in Tunisia.

Hosting the Under-20 Championship is expected to provide Egypt with a new opportunity to demonstrate its organizational readiness and support the journey of young teams as they progress towards continental and international competitions.
