Manchester United Announces Successful Surgery for De Ligt

Manchester United announced that Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt has undergone successful surgery to treat a back injury, following an intensive period of rehabilitation.

The club explained that the decision to undergo corrective surgery was made as the most suitable option for the player's condition, after significant efforts were made throughout the recovery period.

The 26-year-old Dutch international had an impressive start to the season, playing every minute of the Premier League matches until the end of November. He also won the Player of the Month award in November, as voted by the fans.

De Ligt affirmed in a message that he remains determined to return to represent Manchester United and play in front of its fans as soon as possible. He noted that since November, he has worked diligently and exerted great effort in every training session in pursuit of returning to the field and playing football again. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him during this challenging period in his career.

De Ligt is set to begin a new phase of his rehabilitation program following surgery, with his return to Manchester United expected in the early stages of the 2026/2027 season.
