Several Reasons Prompt Juventus to Consider Signing Alaba Despite His Declining Form

Tuesday 12-05-2026
Juventus is considering the possibility of signing Austrian defender David Alaba during the summer transfer window, in a deal described within Italy as a 'potential opportunity' rather than advanced negotiations so far.

According to what was reported by the newspaper Tuttosport, the idea emerged during discussions between the club's management and the famous agent Pini Zahavi, amidst questions related to the player's age and physical condition following a series of injuries that have kept him away from the field for much of the last two seasons.

The report clarified that Juventus management has gathered detailed information about Alaba's physical condition, especially since he has only played 9 matches this season in the Spanish league with Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, the medical and technical evaluations received by the Italian club appeared reassuring, while sources close to the player indicated that his recent exclusion from the starting lineup is more due to technical choices and hierarchy within the team, rather than a sharp decline in his physical condition.

Juventus aims to sign a left-footed defender who excels in building from the back and provides tactical flexibility, qualities that coach Luciano Spalletti sees in Alaba, particularly with his ability to play in more than one defensive position. Additionally, the expiration of the player's contract with Real Madrid next June makes the deal economically attractive, although the player's demands reach a two-year contract with a net salary of 5 million euros annually.

At the same time, Juventus still retains other defensive options on the table, most notably Dutchman Nathan Ake and Greek Konstantinos Koulierakis. Reports indicate that Ake is close to leaving Manchester City after gradually falling out of favor with coach Pep Guardiola, while Juventus officials continue to closely monitor Koulierakis after his impressive performances with Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga.
