Final Judgment of the European League between Aston Villa and Freiburg

The referees committee of UEFA announced the full refereeing crew for the 2026 European League final match.

The match will be led by French referee François Letexier, assisted by Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni, with Spaniard Alejandro José Hernández serving as the fourth official, and José Enrique Pérez as the reserve assistant referee.

For the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, Frenchman Jérôme Brisard has been appointed as the VAR referee, assisted by his compatriot Willy Delajod.

The final match between German Freiburg and English Aston Villa will be held at Beşiktaş Park Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 10 PM Cairo time.

François Letexier has had international experience since 2017, having officiated eight matches in the Champions League during the current season, including the second leg quarter-final between Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon.

This is his second final at the European Union level, having officiated the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England, in addition to leading the 2023 UEFA Super Cup match between Manchester City and Sevilla, serving as the fourth official in the 2024 Champions League final, and officiating four matches in the Euro 2024 tournament.
