Allegri: It's Not the Right Time to Blame, We Must Focus on Securing Champions League Qualification

Monday 11-05-2026
Massimiliano Allegri, the coach of AC Milan, spoke about his team's 3-2 loss against Atalanta, emphasizing that the team needs to focus on upcoming matches and not get distracted by placing blame, amid the battle for a spot in the Champions League.

Allegri said in his statements: "There is no benefit in talking about what has happened so far, because we cannot change it."

He added: "All we can do is work well during the next week and be ready for the Genoa match, which will be decisive in the fight for Champions League qualification."

He continued: "The night started relatively well for about 10 minutes, then we conceded that goal from the first opportunity, and then we collapsed in the second half. After falling behind 3-0, there was a strong reaction, at least we came back to score goals. I know it may seem strange, but it's a good sign."

The Milan coach also pointed out the difficulty of the current phase, saying: "It is natural that no one expected this difficult moment. I thought there would be a period of decline throughout the season, but now we just have to focus on the next match against Genoa."

He added: "We need the enthusiasm and desire to achieve this victory."

Regarding the criticism directed at some players, Allegri said: "I don't think the problem now is related to Leao, Füllkrug, Nkunku, Maignan, or anyone else. It's a team problem."

He concluded his statements by saying: "When results are lacking, I am the first person to take responsibility, because I am the coach. These players have always given their all, and we should not look for blame, but rather focus on the way we achieved many victories this season and need to achieve two more wins."
