Gasperini: I Didn't See the Penalty, and Rarely Have I Turned a Match in Injury Time
Roma's coach Gian Piero Gasperini expressed his happiness with the thrilling 3-2 victory over Parma, praising the team's spirit, while avoiding definitive statements about Paulo Dybala's future, following the match held as part of the Italian league.
Gasperini stated: 'Rarely has it happened to me that I turn a match in injury time from 2-1 to 3-2.'
He added: 'This is proof of the heart these players have. For the first time, I didn't see the penalty; I was looking at the fans, but there was the scoreboard and I saw it anyway.'
Regarding Paulo Dybala's remarks that the derby might be his last match at the team's stadium, the coach said: 'Did he say that? Well, maybe, who knows.'
He continued: 'He was excellent again today, after returning from a long absence and gave us real quality. It's unfortunate we didn't have him for a longer part of the season.'
About Donyell Malen, Gasperini said: 'In the penalty, it's about technique. Everyone went to Dybala and bothered him, but he hit the post.'
He added: 'As for Malen, he is a calm person and not very talkative. He integrated into the dressing room and was exceptional. He has great motivation and raised our level.'
He also praised the substitutes, saying: 'The fact that we can change matches with players coming off the bench means we have become more prepared.'
He concluded his remarks by saying: 'It seemed like a magical match, then everything happened in the last minutes.'
