Valverde issued a lengthy official statement in which he categorically denied any mutual assault, confirming that what happened was merely a misunderstanding during training, and that the injury occurred accidentally after he collided with an object in the locker room. He also pointed out that leaking the incident's details to the media exaggerated the situation inaccurately, at a time when the team is under great pressure after a tough season and exit from the Champions League.

“Yesterday, I had an incident with a teammate due to a situation that happened during training, where the fatigue of competitions and frustration makes everything escalate.

In a normal locker room, such things can happen and be resolved among us without going public. But clearly, someone rushed to leak the story, and with a season without titles where Real Madrid is always under scrutiny, everything is exaggerated more.

Today, we had a new disagreement. During the discussion, I accidentally collided with a table, which caused a small wound on my forehead that required a protocol visit to the hospital.

At no point did my teammate hit me, and that never happened, although I understand that some might find it easier to believe that we exchanged punches or that it was intentional, but that did not happen.

I feel that my anger at the current situation, and my frustration at seeing some of us reaching the end of the season with the last of their energy, has broken us psychologically to the point that I ended up in a dispute with a teammate.

I am sorry, and I apologize from the bottom of my heart because the situation hurts me, and it pains me what we are going through currently. Real Madrid is one of the most important things in my life, and I cannot be indifferent.

The results are an accumulation of several matters that sometimes end in meaningless disagreements that harm my image and leave room for people to invent and add stories.
