Mourinho Sets 10 Conditions for Accepting Real Madrid Coaching Role
Wednesday 06-05-2026
In the context of negotiations between Real Madrid and Portuguese coach José Mourinho, the latter has set clear and decisive conditions for accepting the team's coaching role, as the Portuguese coach is considered the top candidate for this position.

Press reports have confirmed that Florentino Pérez held a video meeting with José Mourinho, attended by the Portuguese coach's agent Jorge Mendes.

According to the Spanish newspaper 'AS', Mourinho's conditions are as follows:

1- Contract Duration: Mourinho requires signing a contract for only two years, no less, no more, rejecting the idea of a one-season deal or a long-term commitment from the start. The coach wants this period to be an opportunity for mutual evaluation between him and the club, with the door open later for discussing an extension until 2028.

2- Communication Aspect: Mourinho seeks to avoid mistakes from his previous tenure in the media, requiring that his discussions with the media be limited to matters concerning the first team only, without delving into other club projects, with an official spokesperson handling non-related matters.

3- Freedom in Team Selection: The Portuguese coach set this clause as a non-negotiable red line, asserting that he will not accept any interference in his technical choices. A player who does not commit defensively or does not deliver the required performance will not participate, regardless of their name, and he will not compromise on this matter or accept future pressures.

4- Technical Staff: Mourinho will arrive with his complete staff, currently working with him, including João Tralão as the first assistant, along with Ricardo Formosinho, Pedro Machado, Ricardo Rocha, Ruben Suarez as a video analyst, Antonio Diaz as a fitness trainer, and Nuno Santos as a goalkeeping coach. During the discussions, Florentino Pérez suggested the inclusion of Álvaro Arbeloa in the staff, and Mourinho did not object.

5- Departure of Antonio Pintus: Mourinho insists on the departure of fitness coach Antonio Pintus, considering the recurring physical problems in the team over the past years unacceptable, and he wants to work only with a staff he fully trusts, without any external interventions.

6- Medical Aspect: Mourinho requested the establishment of a clear protocol allowing for a second medical opinion if requested by the player or if the situation requires it, with direct communication between him and the medical staff to avoid previous mistakes in injury diagnoses.

7- Player List: The coach believes the club should part with 7 players during the summer, as they do not fit the team's level or his technical project. Conversely, players whose contracts are expiring, such as Alaba, Carvajal, and Fran Gonzalez, are not included in this list.

8- Administrative Communication Structure: Mourinho requires that his administrative communication be limited to the club president only, without needing to refer to other names within the administration, such as the general manager or any other official, to avoid repeating past exhausting experiences.

9- Cancellation of Summer Tours: Mourinho refuses to undertake preparatory tours abroad, especially in America and Asia, considering them to negatively affect the team physically and mentally. He prefers to limit the number of friendly matches under his full supervision.

10- Mourinho's Conditions are Non-Negotiable: All these clauses represent a single package that is non-negotiable or modifiable, as Mourinho affirmed he will reject the offer entirely if any condition is not met.

In light of these demands, the ball is now in Florentino Pérez's court, who will decide his position in the coming days, while the new coach's file remains open within Real Madrid, awaiting the final decision.
