Barcelona Sets Condition to Finalize Cancelo Deal
Wednesday 06-05-2026
The Spanish newspaper "Sport" revealed that Barcelona has set a clear condition for completing the signing of player João Cancelo, which is his departure from his current club either through a free transfer or for a nominal fee.

According to the same source, Barcelona has informed the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, of the requirements needed to complete the deal, as the club plans to work in the coming weeks to end the player's association with Al Hilal.

Cancelo has received full technical approval from the sports management and coach Hans Flick, following his performance since joining, as he has participated primarily and become one of the trusted options in the lineup.

The newspaper explained that the coaching staff at Barcelona is satisfied with the player's performance, who joined in January without being fully fit, before becoming a key player, especially in the left-back position, which affected Alejandro Balde's role within the team.

The report also noted that Cancelo is capable of playing in both the right-back and left-back positions, in addition to his offensive contributions and chance creation during the season's matches.

Contractually, the player has one season left on his contract with Al Hilal, while Barcelona refuses to pay high amounts, as the Saudi club's demands are around 10 million euros for his transfer.

The report also stated that Barcelona prefers for the player to terminate his contract and waive the remaining year, even though his annual salary amounts to approximately 16 million euros net.

The newspaper also mentioned the possibility of midfielder Marc Casado being involved in some arrangements related to the negotiations, without any agreement being reached so far.

Official communications are expected to begin in May with the aim of finalizing the matter before the World Cup, while Barcelona does not seem to be in a hurry to complete the deal.
