Gordon Among Barcelona's Interests to Strengthen the Left Wing
Tuesday 05-05-2026
Barcelona continues to search for reinforcements for the attack line, specifically the left-wing position. The sports management is working on studying multiple options to enhance the team's offensive level, despite some proposed names being set back due to economic obstacles, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo."

According to what the newspaper revealed, the 25-year-old Englishman Anthony Gordon is among the names of interest to Barcelona. The club is impressed by his abilities in high pressing and off-the-ball work, in addition to his capability to play as a left winger or in other attacking positions.

Despite this interest, the main obstacle to any potential move is the financial demands of Newcastle, which is asking for 84 million euros to let go of the player.

Gordon had an impressive season with Newcastle, particularly in the Champions League, where he scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 12 matches before his team was eliminated from the tournament by Barcelona.

During the head-to-head encounters against Hans Flick's team, Gordon scored his team's goal in a match that ended with Barcelona winning 2-1 in England during the first stage of the tournament. He delivered a remarkable performance in terms of physical effort, high pressing, and troubling Barcelona's defense, and he played in central positions that showcased his versatility.

According to the newspaper, the deal seems complicated as Newcastle is holding onto its key players and is unwilling to let them go except for substantial financial offers. A report by the German newspaper "Bild" indicated interest from clubs like Bayern Munich, with the English club affirming that they will not negotiate for less than 85 million euros.

This value conflicts with Barcelona's current economic plans, as the club prioritizes strengthening the attack line, with Julian Alvarez still considered the main target in a deal that could be worth around 100 million euros.
