Determining the Levels for the 2027 Asian Cup: Saudi Arabia at the Top of Group A
Monday 04-05-2026
The Asian Football Confederation revealed the details of the draw ceremony for the 2027 Asian Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia in the coming period.

The draw ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 9, 2026, at Salwa Palace in the historic district of Al-Turaif, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The draw is expected to commence at 9 PM local time, with significant public and media attention on this anticipated continental event.

The tournament features the participation of 24 teams, with 23 having already secured their qualification spots, while the final spot will be determined through a playoff match between the Lebanon national team and the Yemen national team.

The continental federation relied on the FIFA rankings for April 2026 to distribute the teams into four levels, with six teams in each level.

The first level included the teams of Saudi Arabia, Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia, and Uzbekistan.

In the second tier were the teams: Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, the UAE, Oman, and Syria.

The third tier included the teams of Bahrain, Thailand, China, Palestine, Vietnam, and Tajikistan.

The fourth level included: Kyrgyzstan national team, North Korea national team, Indonesia national team, Kuwait national team, Singapore national team, in addition to the winner of the Lebanon and Yemen match.

The Saudi national team was placed at the top of Group A as the host of the tournament, allowing them to play the opening match in front of their home crowd and on their own turf.

This is the first edition hosted by Saudi Arabia in its history, and it is also the fourth time the tournament is held in a country that has previously won the title.

The "Green" enters the competition with the ambition of achieving a fourth title, after winning in 1984, 1988, and 1996, aiming to match the record held by Japan.

The tournament is scheduled to start on January 7, 2027, at the King Fahd Sports City Stadium, across eight venues distributed between Riyadh, Jeddah, and Khobar.

The Asian Football Confederation confirmed that the upcoming edition will witness strong competition among the continent's elite teams, with the possibility of a historic appearance by the Yemeni national team if they secure the final qualification spot.
