Real Madrid's Attempt to Sign Zidane After Alonso's Departure
Sunday 03-05-2026
Reports on Sunday indicated that Real Madrid attempted to hire French coach Zinedine Zidane to take over the team's management after Xabi Alonso was dismissed from his position due to declining results.

Real Madrid announced the dismissal of Xabi Alonso last December, following a series of negative results that affected the team's trajectory during the season.

The Spanish newspaper "AS" reported that the management of the Royal Club has already moved to sign Zidane as a successor to Alonso. However, the French coach's commitment to an agreement with the French national team prevented the deal from being completed.

Reports indicated that Zidane has reached an agreement to coach the French national team after the end of the 2026 World Cup, following the departure of the current coach Didier Deschamps from his position.

Zidane previously managed Real Madrid in two periods, during which he succeeded in winning 11 titles, before leaving the team in June 2021. Since then, he has not managed any club and has turned down all the offers he received.

In a related context, Álvaro Arbeloa took over the team's leadership temporarily following Xabi Alonso's departure, but he will leave his position at the end of the current season.

Real Madrid continues its search for a new coach to lead the team as the season approaches its end, with the management striving to restore technical stability in the upcoming phase.
