Barcelona Prepares an Offensive Alternative in Case of Alvarez Deal Failure
Tuesday 28-04-2026
Barcelona's management has started early moves to settle the striker issue for the next season, considering more than one scenario in case they fail to sign their primary target.

Spanish radio station "Cadena SER," citing journalist Sique Rodríguez and with the participation of former star Bojan Krkic, revealed that Barcelona is considering signing Brazilian Joao Pedro, a Chelsea forward, as an alternative option if the deal for Argentine Julian Alvarez falls through.

Barcelona is close to securing the Spanish league title, as they lead the standings by 11 points over Real Madrid, with only five rounds remaining until the end of the competition, giving them a significant advantage to claim the championship in the upcoming period.

In parallel with the competition for the title, the club's management has begun setting plans for the new season, focusing on strengthening the center-forward position, especially given the decline in performance of both Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres during the current season.

Alvarez scored the first goal.

Álvarez, the Atlético Madrid and Argentina national team forward, remains Barcelona's main target in the transfer market, despite currently being occupied with his team's journey in the UEFA Champions League.

However, if the player continues with his club or moves to another destination, João Pedro emerges as a strong alternative option, especially after his impressive performances this season, having scored 14 goals and provided 5 assists in 32 matches.

Bojan Krkić affirmed that João Pedro possesses the technical qualities that align with Barcelona's style, noting that he had previously communicated with him through Ansu Fati about a year and a half ago.

He explained that the player is characterized by offensive flexibility, as he can play as a forward or behind the striker, in addition to his ability to move in tight spaces, which makes him suitable for the team's style of play.

He added that if the financial value between the two deals is close, he prefers to sign João Pedro due to his technical compatibility with the requirements of coach Hansi Flick, who is looking for multiple attacking solutions for the next season.
