Fenerbahçe Club announced the dismissal of their coach Domenico Tedesco following a heavy 0-3 defeat against their rival Galatasaray in the Istanbul derby, a result that increased the fans' anger and raised doubts about the team's path this season.

Tedesco took over coaching the team in September 2025, coming from previous experiences, most notably with Schalke. However, his results with Fenerbahçe did not meet expectations, especially in the crucial matches in the title race.

After this loss, the gap at the top of the Turkish league widened, with Fenerbahçe now trailing leaders Galatasaray by seven points. This led the club's management to believe that a coaching change had become necessary to salvage what could be saved.
