Six Continental Spots for Saudi Clubs in Asia
It was announced that the allocation of spots for Saudi clubs in continental tournaments will increase to six starting from the next season.
The decision came following a meeting of the Professional Committee in Jeddah, where new amendments concerning the continental participation system were approved.
This step aligns with the anticipated expansion of the tournament, which will see the number of teams increase from 24 to 32.
The new regulation allocated five Saudi seats in the Elite Championship, including three direct entries and two through the playoffs. Additionally, an extra spot was granted to Saudi clubs in the Asian Championship.
The distribution also included other countries, with the UAE, Qatar, South Korea, and Thailand receiving varying seats in the continental championships.
Countries such as Iran, China, Uzbekistan, and Australia also received different quotas according to their continental classification.
The amendments saw the introduction of an additional spot for the Asia 2 playoff, allocated to the runner-up of the Asian Challenge League.
The updates also included amendments to club licensing regulations, with special deadlines set for the application procedures.
New regulations are set to be implemented starting from the 2027-2028 season, including additional conditions for clubs and federations.
One of the most notable measures is the mandatory use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the local leagues for the participating teams.
All these decisions will be submitted for final approval by the executive office before they officially come into effect.
