Wednesday 22-04-2026
Al-Zawraa Club continued its series of positive results and achieved its second consecutive victory after surpassing its guest Diyala with two clean goals on Wednesday evening at Al-Shaljia Stadium, within the 30th round of the Iraqi Stars League, in a match that the "Nawras" completed with ten players for more than 40 minutes.

Al-Zawraa entered the match strongly, and did not give its guest Diyala more than 10 minutes before opening the scoring through defender Amer Jamous, who rose to a perfect corner and headed it into the net, announcing the hosts' early lead amid great fan joy.

The goal gave Al-Zawraa a moral and technical advantage, and the team completely dominated the course of the game. In the 36th minute, striker Murad Mohammed reinforced the score with the second goal after a through pass put him in front of the goalkeeper, confidently placing it in the net and securing his team's superiority before the end of the first half.

The second half began with a shock for Al-Zawraa fans when the referee showed a direct red card to the scorer of the first goal, Amer Jamous, in the 51st minute after a strong tackle on a Diyala player. The expulsion put Louay Salah and his players under a tough test to complete the match with a numerical disadvantage.

Diyala tried to exploit the numerical superiority and pushed forward in search of reducing the difference, but Al-Zawraa's defensive organization and the players' resilience thwarted all attempts. Louay Salah made substitutions to strengthen the midfield and defense, and the "Nawras" succeeded in absorbing Diyala's pressure and maintaining a clean sheet until the final whistle.

The victory raised Al-Zawraa's tally to 57 points to strengthen its position in fifth place, narrowing the gap with the top four to just one point with five rounds remaining until the finish line. The third victory in the last four matches confirms that the "Nawras" have regained their balance and returned strongly to the race for advanced positions.

In contrast, Diyala's tally froze at 41 points in tenth place, after failing to exploit Al-Zawraa's numerical shortage for more than an entire half. The team offered a better second half but lacked the final touch in front of the goal.
