The match between Hellas Verona and AC Milan witnessed tense atmospheres in the stands of the Bentegodi Stadium after AC Milan duo Rafael Leão and Mike Maignan were subjected to hostile chants from Verona fans, including continuous jeers at the goalkeeper and "boo" sounds directed at the Portuguese forward from the start of the game.

The incident brought to mind a similar occurrence about 16 months ago, when Maignan complained of racist chants in the same stadium.

In this match, the French goalkeeper once again approached the referee during the break, prompting the referee to activate the protocol through an official announcement in the stadium calling for the cessation of any racist or discriminatory behavior.

During the course of the match, Leao was subjected to verbal attacks from the stands, especially when he left the field before the end of the game, where he faced direct insults accompanied by loud whistles. Meanwhile, the crowd continued to put pressure on Maignan every time he touched the ball in the second half.

For his part, AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri commented on the incident, praising Maignan's behavior, saying that the goalkeeper handled it with great maturity and chose to ignore the provocations.

He added that combating racism is a collective responsibility, considering that sometimes ignoring these behaviors can be an effective way to reduce them.
