Atletico Madrid Seeks to Reduce the Purchase Price of Nicolas Gonzalez
Italian press reports have revealed that Atlético Madrid is planning to negotiate for a reduction in the purchase price of player Nicolás González from Juventus, despite a prior agreement between the two parties on a conditional mandatory purchase clause.
Nicolas Gonzalez is on a loan spell with Atletico Madrid coming from Juventus, for a loan fee of one million euros, with bonuses that could reach an additional one million euros, while the purchase clause is valued at 32 million euros.
According to the updates, the purchase clause will be activated if the player participates for at least 45 minutes in 21 matches of the Spanish league this season, which is approximately 60% of the matches.
So far, Gonzalez has participated in 22 La Liga matches, scoring 3 goals, but he has played 45 minutes or more in only 15 of those matches.
With only 7 matches remaining for Atletico Madrid in the current season, and with him not reaching the required number of appearances in recent games, there is a possibility that the mandatory purchase clause will not be activated.
The press reports stated that Atletico Madrid is still satisfied with the player's performance this season and wishes for his continuation during the 2026/2027 season. However, at the same time, they are seeking to avoid paying the agreed amount of 32 million euros to Juventus.
In the event that the mandatory purchase clause is not activated, Atlético will negotiate with Juventus to reach an agreement at a lower price during the next summer transfer window.
