Atletico Madrid Insists on Refusing to Sell Alvarez
Saturday 18-04-2026
Atletico Madrid continues to hold its position of refusing to sell its Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, amid Barcelona's interest in signing him in the upcoming period, as confirmed by the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'.

The newspaper explained that the Madrid club's management is categorically refusing to enter into any negotiations regarding the player, emphasizing that he is not for sale, leaving no room to open discussions about his future, despite the interest from Barcelona's sporting management, led by Deco, in signing the player.

This stance comes at a time when the deal is becoming increasingly difficult, especially after Atletico Madrid qualified for the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, in addition to preparing for the Copa del Rey final, which strengthens the club's hold on its key players.

The report indicated that Julian Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 from Manchester City for 75 million euros, plus 20 million in variables, and is under contract until 2030, with a release clause of 500 million euros, a figure beyond the reach of any club.

The same source confirmed that Atletico Madrid's management does not pay attention to the player's statements interpreted as possibly opening the door to departure, as they believe Alvarez will not request negotiations to leave the team.

In a related context, the Spanish newspaper mentioned that Barcelona's attempts to reduce the value of the deal, which the Catalan club estimates at no less than 100 million euros, by including players in it, were not accepted by Atletico Madrid.

It was also explained that the name of young midfielder Marc Casado was proposed among these scenarios, but the Madrid club does not include him in its plans, whether in the short or medium term.

The speculations also included the possibility of including Ferran Torres in the deal, but the report confirmed that this option is not on the table, as Barcelona does not see it as beneficial, nor does Atletico Madrid consider it an option to strengthen its ranks for the next season.

The report pointed out that Barcelona's plan was initially directed towards renewing Ferran Torres' contract, which extends until June 30, 2027, after he signed with the club in December 2021 for five and a half seasons, with a release clause of one billion euros.
