Grimaldo Approaches Departure from Leverkusen to Barcelona
Friday 17-04-2026
Spanish press reports, as reported by the Spanish newspaper "Sport," have revealed that left-back Alejandro Grimaldo is close to ending his stint with Bayer Leverkusen during the current season, with the possibility of his departure in the upcoming transfer window.

According to the same source, Grimaldo has only one year left on his contract, which could allow him to leave for less than 12 million euros. This has attracted the interest of several European clubs, most notably Barcelona, along with Juventus and Milan.

The report indicated that the player prefers to move to Barcelona or return to the Spanish league, awaiting an official move from the Catalan club or Atlético Madrid to take concrete action.

Barcelona had considered Grimaldo as an option last summer as a replacement for Balde, and a near-final agreement was reached for 15 million euros. However, the deal was not completed because the player Gerard Martin did not move to Wolverhampton.

The report clarified that Barcelona's interest remains, but the priorities have changed at the moment with discussions about restructuring the full-back positions. Gerard Martin remains an important element in the team, while Balde's future remains undecided despite his lack of desire to leave.

The report indicated that if Balde stays, the chances of Grimaldo joining would be slim. However, if he leaves, the Spanish player would be on a shortlist of options, alongside Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus, who is considered a preferred choice for the full-back position, although his value could reach around 30 million euros.
