Approach of an All-Arab Final in the Confederation Cup
Thursday 16-04-2026
The CAF Confederation Cup is heading towards the possibility of repeating an all-Arab final scenario for the second time in the last three editions, as the second-leg matches in the semi-final stage approach.

The decisive round kicks off, with Zamalek hosting Chabab Belouizdad, while Olympique Safi faces USM Alger in another anticipated match.

Zamalek enters the match with a relative advantage, having won the away leg 1-0, meaning a draw at Cairo International Stadium would be sufficient for them to secure a spot in the final.

On the other hand, CR Belouizdad needs to win by a two-goal margin or win by one goal while scoring at least two goals to ensure advancement, whereas a 1-0 result leads to a penalty shootout.

The Egyptian team hopes to take advantage of playing on home ground and in front of their fans, especially since they haven't lost any matches at their stadium during this season's tournament. Meanwhile, there are doubts about the readiness of their Brazilian player, Juan Bezerra, due to injury.

Despite the difficulty of the situation, the youth of Belouizdad still hold onto their hopes, relying on their good results away from home in the current edition.

In the second encounter, Olympique Safi holds a psychological advantage after a goalless draw away against USM Alger, which gives them a chance to qualify if they win by any score in the return leg.

The Moroccan team aims to continue its surprises in its first continental appearance, having eliminated Wydad in the previous round. However, its task seems complicated against an opponent with significant experience, as USM Alger seeks to achieve at least a positive draw to secure qualification, benefiting from its continental experience and previous championship victory.

The final matches are expected to be held on May 9 and 16 at the stadiums of the qualifying teams, amidst anticipation for an all-Arab encounter that could once again dominate the continental scene.
