Roma and Lazio Reject Postponement of the Capital Derby
Wednesday 15-04-2026
Roma and Lazio clubs rejected a proposal to postpone the capital derby match in the Italian league, despite its coincidence with the final of the Rome Tennis Championship, according to 'Football Italia'.

The derby match between Roma and Lazio is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 17, at the Stadio Olimpico, coinciding with the final of the Rome Tennis Championship on the same day within the Foro Italico complex, located in the same sports area in the Italian capital, Rome.

Reports indicate that Italian player Jannik Sinner, ranked number one in the world, may reach the final of the Rome Tennis Championship, raising concerns about crowd management, providing security resources, and ensuring public safety.

According to the source, the idea of rescheduling the derby match was proposed to avoid conflict with the final of the Italian Open Tennis Championship, but both clubs rejected this suggestion, considering that holding the match on another evening during the week might not be convenient for fans.

Nevertheless, authorities are expected to reconsider the situation, given the difficulty of setting a later kickoff time on Sunday due to security concerns associated with the high-risk nature of the Rome derby.
