Lawsuit Against Messi in Florida Over Fraud Allegations

Argentinian star Lionel Messi is facing a lawsuit in the state of Florida, accusing him of fraud and breach of contract, due to his absence from an Argentina national team match last year.

According to a report published by TMZ, a company called VID, based in Miami and specializing in organizing sports and music events, has filed a lawsuit against Messi and the Argentine Football Association.

The company indicates that it incurred losses estimated in the millions of dollars due to Messi's absence from a friendly match between Argentina and the Venezuelan national team.

According to the report, the company confirms that it has signed a $7 million agreement with the Argentine federation, granting it exclusive rights to two friendly matches, the first against Venezuela and the second against Puerto Rico, both of which took place in October.

The company claims that the contract stipulated Messi's participation for no less than 30 minutes in each match, unless he was injured.

However, Messi attended the Venezuela match from the stands of the "Hard Rock" stadium in a private suite with his family, which the company also claims to have covered the costs for.

The following day, Messi scored two goals for Inter Miami against Atlanta United, and he also participated in Argentina's match against Puerto Rico, assisting in two goals in a significant 6-0 victory.

The company says it lost more than a million dollars after moving the Puerto Rico match from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale.

On the other hand, officials in Chicago explained that the reason for the relocation was weak ticket sales, while officials from the Argentine federation indicated that stricter immigration measures were the cause.

VID claims that the Argentine federation promised to compensate it by organizing matches in China in 2026, but these matches were not carried out.

The company is demanding full compensation for its financial losses, in addition to additional damages.

In a related context, Major League Soccer and the Vancouver Whitecaps reached a settlement last month in a class-action lawsuit that included allegations of misleading fans about Messi's participation in a 2024 match. The settlement involved a financial agreement of $329,000, with both parties denying legal liability.
