Wednesday 15-04-2026
Liverpool suffered a major blow after their French star Hugo Ekitike sustained a serious injury during the match against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals at Anfield, which ended with the Reds losing 2-0.

In the 30th minute, Ekitike suffered a concerning injury without any contact with opposing players, collapsing on the field in pain. He was then carried off on a stretcher, visibly affected and in tears, and was replaced by Mohamed Salah.

According to the French newspaper "Le Parisien," the injury indicates a rupture of the Achilles tendon, a serious injury that could keep the player off the field for up to 9 months, pending official confirmation from the club.

This injury is a severe blow to the French player, especially as it comes just about two months before the start of the 2026 World Cup.

The Liverpool medical team is awaiting the final test results to accurately determine the extent of the injury and the necessary rehabilitation program, while the club is experiencing significant concern about the player's condition.
