Press reports revealed that goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was close to leaving Real Madrid in 2024 due to not participating in the UEFA Champions League final, despite his impressive performances in the previous rounds.

According to what was published by "AS" newspaper, the support provided by the club to the Ukrainian goalkeeper and his family following the outbreak of war in his country played an important role in changing his stance and motivated him to continue with the team.

Reports indicated that Lunin was considering leaving in search of a greater opportunity to play regularly, before surprising everyone by renewing his contract with Real Madrid for six years last September.

The sources added that the goalkeeper did not forget the club's stance with him during a difficult period, as he received moral and institutional support from the beginning of the crisis, which strengthened his bond with the team.

Lunin has become one of the key elements within the team in recent times, especially during the absence of the main goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois due to injuries, making him a reliable option in the goalkeeper position.

The Ukrainian goalkeeper is also seen as one of the potential candidates to succeed Courtois in the future, given his advancing age and the recurrence of his injuries in recent years.

Real Madrid is currently preparing for a strong encounter against Bayern Munich in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, after losing the first leg 2-1.
