The media personality Medhat Shalaby revealed that Al Ahly desires the establishment of a special referees committee for the Premier League under the supervision of the Clubs Association.

Al Ahly drew 1-1 with Ceramica last Tuesday in a Premier League match that witnessed widespread refereeing controversy.

Mahmoud Wafa, the match referee, faced sharp criticism after not awarding a penalty to Al Ahly against Ceramica Cleopatra, despite consulting the video assistant referee.

Medhat Shalaby said in a television statement: "There is an initiative by Al Ahly club with other clubs to form what is called a special referees committee for the Premier League under the supervision of the Clubs Association."

He added: "There is currently a dialogue between Al Ahly club and a group of Premier League clubs about having a separate referees committee under the clubs' association."

He explained: "In order to establish a separate referees committee, the statute of the football association must be amended, and this should be done through the general assembly of the association."
