Wednesday 08-04-2026
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany appeared in a press statement following the 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, in the match held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The coach said: "The Santiago Bernabéu changed in the last quarter of an hour, and we must be ready for the battle. We can create the same experience at the Allianz Arena. We are eagerly looking forward to it."

He added, "We had some opportunities that we should have taken advantage of. We hope to score at Allianz, and I see no reason why we can't win, but Real Madrid has exceptional talents."

He emphasized, "The team deserved to be itself, as it achieved many victories and delivered outstanding performances. Therefore, my initial changes [substitutions] were similar to the players. But in the end, things were settled."

Regarding Neuer receiving the Man of the Match award: "It seems very easy for him. Great goalkeepers make incredible saves from difficult angles as if they are extremely easy. Neuer is still excellent in his positioning and defends the defensive line brilliantly."

He emphasized, "We will not win the championship without more of this performance."

Regarding the second leg match: "It is important to maintain the winning momentum. Real Madrid will present a tough match, as they are a team capable of achieving something remarkable, but we are capable of that as well. We have earned the right to be confident in ourselves and to claim the advantage in these matches. But this is football, and results cannot be predicted."

He concluded: "The credit goes to the players, not me, so I just try to guide them with some advice when I can, as if I were playing. But in the end, it's the players who play on the field."
